- To consider the importance of repeated, regular reading experiences for children from the earliest age – examining the vital role which books & reading play in developing communication and language skills as well as the long-term effects they can have on the life-chances of children.
- To improve confidence and practical skills in engaging the very young in stories through book play and sensory experiences, appropriate to their different stages of development.
- To understand how impact can be increased when we talk about and sing alongside books, developing practical skills to maximise this.
- To explore and plan practical, low-budget, reading environments in EY setting which will enhance the experience and encourage listening, engagement, communication and enjoyment of books for 0-2-year olds.
