Teaching Dance in the Primary School

Improving Curriculum Physical Education (PE) Module 2 including choreography for the Dance Festival 2020!!!!!!!!!

Outline

These modules will be delivered as standalone CPD opportunities and are targeted at members of staff who teach or support
the teaching of Physical Education. Each of the modules is designed to increase confidence and competence when teaching the
identified Area of Activity as part of the statutory National Curriculum Physical Education, Programme of Study in the primary school.

This is a one day course to help practitioners build their confidence and competence in teaching dance in the primary school as well as exploring the choreography of performance pieces. The course will help practitioners to understand how to teach and ensure learning and progression within and across dance lessons and units of work.

Description

Delegates will explore the basic components of dance and choreography and builds confidence and competence in teachers to create dance lessons. units of work and
choreograph performance pieces. By the end of the day you will understand how to teach dance and be equipped to build your own dance lesson plans.
If you are a primary school teacher (KS1 & KS2) and want to build their confidence, knowledge and understanding in teaching and improving the quality of pupils’ learning and
attainment within curricular and extra-curricular dance then this course is definitely for you.

Participants will have the opportunity to:
  • Explore planning for and delivery of primary curriculum dance to primary age children
  • Identify how to differentiate activity to enable appropriate challenge for all children
  • Establish how to deliver high quality dance lessons and performances where all children can be enriched, enabled and extended.
  • Develop knowledge and expertise to effectively build a dance and developing an exciting piece of choreography for performance purposes.

Booking Information

N.B: The day will involve practical tasks, presentations, demonstrations, observations and discussion. It is important to note that you will be asked to work in bare feet, and you should wear comfortable clothing.

Non-Attendance and Cancellation Policy: 7 full working days. Failure to notify re non-attendance within these parameters will result in a £50 cancellation charge or the full cost of the course being charged (whichever is the greater).

Primary School teachers/classroom practitioners (KS1 & 2); anyone teaching dance and/or choreographing the performance piece for this year’s Gateshead Schools Dance Festival
